Tali Sketch and tutorial

Ive been ask by a few people how I do my drawings and if I could do a tutorial on them so I figured in honor of Mass Effect 2 I did a Tali head shot.

So for starters you need a sketch, anything you want to draw, in this case Tali.
Then I scan it into the PC and open it in photoshop.
Add a new layer onto of it and sketch over the drawing with the brush too, this is the first pass.
clean up some of the curves of your sketch or fill in any details you missed.

Using a reference pic, screenshot or production photos, you can get the right colors for your drawing; or if you doing an OC then go nuts with what colors you want to use.
create a new layer and place it under the layer you sketched your lines one, this will make it easier to fill in.

after filling in the color add a new layer for the shade and place it under the sketch layer but onto of the color layer, select each color you use for the base colors and darken them slightly. determine where your light source is coming from and add the shadows. you can add glare by lightening up the colors

add another layer, under the sketch and above the shadow and added any extra details, suck as fabric detail or dirt/scratches.

usually the layers should end up looking like this
